About

An upcoming zine with a focus on sharing alterhuman experiences through personal essays. It is open to all nonhuman, human-ish, otherkin/therian/fictionkin, plural, etc etc etc. If you're wondering if your experiences count, the answer is yes and we'd love to hear them! The zine does not have a defined prompt other than it must be a personal essay centered around alterhuman experience.

While submissions are expected to be personal essays, you do not have to worry about following specific essay presentation. This is not an English class.

The submission deadline is October 1st, 2024, while the zine is slated to be published around January 1st, 2025. The completed zine will be uploaded to itch.io for free.

Essay guidelines

• Submissions cannot be NSFW/R-18.
• Font must be New Times Roman or similar. Font size must be 16pt, and essay must be double spaced.
• Minimum word count is 500. Maximum is 8,000.
• You may send up to 3 essays per individual; system members are counted as individual and can sent up to 3 each.
• !!UPDATED 9/5/24!! Please feel free to use new OR old essays that you have written. You may submit an essay you've used elsewhere.
• Please upload your essays as .docx file.

Submission guidelines

Send your completed essay to counterfictional@gmail.com with the following in the body of the email:

• Name of author
• Personal website or social media to be linked with the author's name when listing off contributors (optional; please list as N/A if uninterested in giving a social media or website)
• Title of essay
• Word count
• Any content warning
• Anything else you'd like added
